In the technical field, copper is used as an intermediate layer before silver plating or nickel plating of copper and copper alloys. Depending on the base material, the coating is either cyanide or acid electrolyte. The reddish colour of copper plating is interesting for decorative applications. After a copper coating, it is easy to polish and has good ductility, but copper is not resistant to tarnishing.
